Retin-A was initially developed to treat bad cases of acne, however, it has since been discovered to be useful against skin aging and even hair loss.
Retin-A is a topical treatment that can aid teenagers or adults in the reduction of acne and the prevention of new pimples from forming. Retin-A takes time to work, results can take two to three weeks as the medication in Retin-A works to remove many of the unseen pimples below the surface of the skin. If your face scars easily Retin-A can help reduce pockmark scars and help prevent new acne from forming.
Retin-A is also used, mainly by women, to help reduce wrinkles in the skin due to natural skin aging. It works by building up the collagen beneath the skin to help push up the wrinkles, pockmarks or scars. If you have dry skin then you should use Retin-A cream and not the gel which is alcohol based.
Retin-A, used by itself, has been found to stimulate hair growth but Retin-A can be used along with topical Minoxidil ( Regaine / Rogaine / Headway ). When Retin-A is first applied to the scalp and then topical Minoxidil applied the concentrations of Minoxidil that are absorbed into the scalp skin increase dramatically making them a powerful combination.
Retin-A works best if applied in a thin layer across the entire face and should be applied 20 to 30 minutes after thoroughly washing your face. Retin-A may make an individual more sun sensitive so applying Retin-A at night is recommended.
